Isabella Blow on what Alexander McQueen should have done at Givenchy:
"I had an idea that he should have a muse, and she'd live there, and she'd be at home - in her salon - as they did in the 18th century. You'd have tea with her, she'd talk, she'd run around in the clothes. You know, a sort of Warhol Factory thing? But life is very corporate now, you can't do all that. But that's what I would have done. I just would have had a wild time."

Lonely as a cloud
ReplyDeleteWhat shall we sing, my friends?
In what shall we rejoice?
There alone our song lives,
Where our ancestors were born.
On Earth, where they lived...
I suffer here on Earth...
He who gives life conceals
thanks.
I wonder what would have become of the pair had they never met? I'm sure Blow would have refused to grow old gracefully, but Mc Queen? Can't help thinking he'd have had a career more suited to his non-conformist attitude, and maybe not lost control.
ReplyDeleteYea, from the documentary it seemed he was burnt out by the end. He just shot to stardom with Blow's help. Perhaps if he'd had a slower rise to the top he wouldn't have achived everything so fast and he would still be around, feeling as if he had a purpose. It's fascinating to ponder over that.
ReplyDeleteHow good was the documentary? Maybe a little ott but that was McQueen. I got the chills watching some of his shows! The debate surrounding art vs misogyny is very interesting, also.
It was the best documentary I've seen for a long time. I enjoyed Mc Queens brothers comments, he seemed to have a quiet acceptance of him without trying to understand him. Oh to be at that show with the mirrors, and the shackled woman!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know people like him, and Isabella Blow, but no way could I work with them!
This guy who's blog I follow has a really interesting career background, and experience in some aspects of fashion/design. Check out his comments on Mc Quuen:

excuse my tired typos and grammatical errors-how embarrassing *cowers in shame*
ReplyDeleteI agree, I'm really glad they ended the programme on a quote from him rather than some of the la-di-dah types we saw.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling the same tbh, commas are confusing me tonight. That's why I didn't write a lengthy post about what I thought of the doc!
Just read the blog, I love reading the insights of insiders instead of random fashion commentators (like myself...)
I'm really intrigued by eccentric characters, and even more weirdly intrigued by eccentric characters who end their lives. For someone who likes ruffles and whose blog is bright pink, I'm strangely into the dark side of life! I'm like a goth barbie.
Thanks for tthis
