Design Britain

I love happy coincidences.  Having just booked my flights home for three weeks in the summer, immediately coming across information on the cool Britannia-style exhibition the V&A museum are holding until August 12th seems almost serendipitous.

The exhibition traces the best of British design from post-World War II to now, with the curators taking gallery-goers on a journey through iconic eras such as the swinging sixties and the punk-inspired seventies.  I’m envisioning odes to pillar-box red phone boxes, Mary Quant’s miniskirts, The Sex Pistols’ lewd posters, and so much more.

April in Instagram

I haven't posted here for so so long.  Here's an update on my life through Instagram.

This is a picture of some flowers I took for Chincha for our monthly Chinchagram competition.  All you need to do is hashtag pictures on Instagram, Tumblr or Twitter with #chinchagram to enter.  We're putting the winners on the website.

One of my own #chinchagram entries, taken outside work.

The view from my boyfriend's rooftop in Cheongju, a city right in the centre of Korea.

A trippy drawing by one of my students, who is clearly a Beatles fan.

The newest coffee shop in my area.  Cute, eh?  They're all like this.

The first spring picture I took this year.  I looked up, saw blossoms, and realised I wasn't fucking freezing anymore.

Pork ramen soup from a local Japanese restaurant.  This costs about £3 and is machesoyo (bloody delicious).

Tree blossoms at night.

Promotional posters I picked up in Japan as wall posters for my boring apartment walls.  It looks so much better now.

A chicken dinner complete with a banana and strawberry salad.  This restaurant was such a good find.  It's ten minutes away from my house and lacks the strip lighting and banging tunes associated with most popular Western-style eateries in Korea.

Spring means seasonal strawberry juice. YUM.

This is a pretty normal sight to see.

Another rooftop view.

It rained and the cherry blossoms fell off the trees, looking pleasingly like confetti.

Vietnam on Film

Another Vietnam film made by another one of my friends. I'm even in this one very briefly: look for the girl making a stupid face.

A Day in the Life of Canada

I found this weird book in a coffee shop in Korea, which has given me a completely screwed up idea of what it's like to live in Canada.  I want to gather all of these people together and propose we start a cult.  The cross-dressing kid with the baseball bat will obvs be our leader.

Queen of Anti-Social

"I love solid backgrounds the most when it comes to shooting people.  But that could easily change. "

Individual Tumblrs usually aren't worth mentioning as they're usually full of reblogged, unoriginal content.  Queen of Anti-Social's Tumblr is different, though. It's run by a make-up artist with a penchant for analog photography, tattoos and behind-the-scenes shots.  All the photographs included belong to her and have this authentic, anti-fashion feel which is completely alluring and refreshing, especially paired with her down-to-earth blurbs that can be found beneath each one.

G'Old Korea Vinyl

G'Old Vinyl Korea is a website playlist curated by Gopchang Jeongol, a basement bar in Hongdae, Seoul that plays vintage Korean tunes from the 50's onwards.  They recently held an after-party for a Toro Y Moi gig (which I went to!) and pictures taken on the night by my photographer friend Wonny Bunny have been published on The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project.

There's one shitty picture of me covering my eyes and looking like a dweeb if you want to search through the rest of the photos on Facebook.

MiniMix

Finding myself unusually and luxuriously home alone on a Friday night.  I'm meant to be at a leaving party right now (this isn't as big a deal as it sounds; people are constantly leaving Korea) but I couldn't face the trek into Hongdae in the minus degree temperature.

In the midst of curling up like a cat to read a trashy novel, downloading cult classic films (Blue Velvet) and eating copious amounts of cereal, I found this MiniMix by DJ Suit on the blog Daughter of Soho Riots.

It's making me nostalgic for club nights in Cardiff and dancing like this:

Maaaaan, I wish I was still a student.
